$300 donated to Child's Play!
![]()
Child's Play is an amazing charity started in Seattle by Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins from the online comic strip Penny Arcade. The organization donates video games and other toys to children's hospitals all over the world.
Check out their website for more info, or to make an additional donation directly. Their website is only updated from November-December during their annual toy drive, but donations can be made year round. You can find them at www.childsplaycharity.org.
Thanks again to everyone! We could not have done this without your help. We had a fantastic time putting this together and met so many wonderful people as a result. Nerd Party is proof that the Twin Cities are a hotbed of geek culture.
We are busy scheming now about what sort of thing we could do to keep the spirit of Nerd Party alive all year round...so stay tuned! You can keep up-to-date by subscribing to our RSS feed, liking us on Facebook, or joining our mailing list on the website.
Linux Workshop, Costume Contest, & Trivia
Here's what's going on today at Nerd Party...
From 3-5, come geek out on Linux! Learn about some different distributions, try them out and even take home an install CD.
At 6:30 the costume contest begins. Show off your costuming abilities, meet our celebrity judges & win some awesome prizes.
8:30 is trivia with Tom Reinert. Tom has put together some great questions to test your nerdy knowledge & there are some fun prizes for this, as well!
Please help us out by buying buttons & sodas while you are here and donating a little extra cash if you have some. We are trying to cover our operating costs and have some money left over to donate to Child's Play - a charity that donates video games & other toys for kids in children's hospitals across the US & throughout the world.
Thank you all so much for coming out to our events this week! Best week ever :)
Fan Remix Night at Nerd Party!
Tonight's fun begins early at 4pm with a showing of Brad Neely's Wizard People, Dear Reader--an incredible retelling of the first Harry Potter movie that is played over the visuals from the film as an alternative soundtrack. Come a little early to listen to some Wizard Rock, check out the artwork & play a game of pong.
Then, at 7pm is Vide(o)lation: A Celebration of Transformation - Copyright and Fair Use in Remix Video. Video topics include political commentaries on Hurricane Katrina and the bank bailouts, and a collection of remixes that critique their sources (including Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Twilight), as well as some "just-for-fun" remixes that will leave you happily geeked-out. Co-hosts Nancy Sims & Amity Foster will provide some commentary with the playlist to get you thinking about originality, transformation, ownership, and free expression in this interesting artform.
We'll have free popcorn & coffee, cheap sodas, and to satisfy your sweet tooth, the bake sale menu tonight sounds incredible! Raspberry blackout cupcakes, chocolate peanut butterdream cupcakes, snickerdoodle muffins, tollhouse cookies, banana brownies, and jalapeno beer bread. Bake sale runs from 6pm til dark!
